History:

The history of the Afghan Hound is strongly tied to that of the Persian Greyhound.  It is written the a pair of these "baboon or monkey-faced hounds" were among the animals in Noah's Ark. The Afghan was discovered in the latter part of the 19th century by British soldiers stationed on the boarder between Afghanistan and India who introduced them into England in 1894.

Temperament and Size:

The Afghan is an aristocrat, whose appearance is one of dignity and aloofness. Dogs stand 27 inches (69 cm) and bitches stand 25 inches (64 cm) weighing 60 lbs (27 kg) and 50 lbs (23 kg) respectively.

Further information on the Afghan Hound is available from the Canadian Kennel Club or the American Kennel Club.
